Radar Detector Reviews

The brand and model of radar detector can drastically affect the level of satisfaction you attain from it. This obviously depends upon what you are looking for and what you want out of your radar and laser detector. My first piece of advice is to get a unit with both radar and laser detection capabilities because you never know what the police are using in the town you're driving through. I live in Santa Barbara where they use mainly laser. The good news most units these days come with both whether it's a low end or high end detector.

The Cobra radar detector line is backed by a solid company that makes low end with their ESD7000 and XRS-9345 all the way up to their XRS-9960G and XRS-R10G with speed trap locations and red light camera locations. Whistler does a great job of carrying a wide variety of units as well and are relatively inexpensive. The Whistler XTR-330 is a great inexpensive unit. If you are looking for slightly more functionality they offer the XTR-690 or DE 1788. Now if you're really looking for top of the line and are willing to spend the money to get it the Escort 9500IX will give you everything you want. With that said I think the Cobra XRS-9960G is very comparable in radar detection performance at roughly three fifths the price. The Escort 9500 IX will stlightly out perform the Cobra XRS-9960G when it comes to laser, but I have to say I like the red light camera and speed trap GPS that the Cobra unit comes with.
