Valentine One Radar Detector - Take Advantage Of Years Of Refinement For A Discount Price

The Valentine One radar detector is a highly capable unit and is a result of decades of research and refinement. Importantly, it is one of the only detectors on the market today that has forward and rear facing antennas.

You may have read some favorable reviews and might be wondering where you can get your hands on this unit for an extremely competitive price. You may also be undecided about this unit and need more convincing.

If this sounds like you, please read on...

Traditional single antenna units rely on the incoming signal from the speed camera hitting the front of the car as this is the way they are facing. However, if the signal is emanating from the side or rear of the vehicle, then you are not going to be protected from those particular radar and speed cameras. You also run the risk of driving along and having a patrol car close in on your position from behind without you even knowing about it. Even if nothing else appealed to you about the Valentine model, then this factor alone should appeal to you.

This unit has an extremely long detection range and has the ability to track multiple threats simultaneously. One often overlooked benefit of the One is that is does not distract you while you are driving. During the day it doesn't bounce bright sunshine back into your eyes or catch the attention of other road users - this is due to its non reflective construction material. At night it is equally as impressive with an easy to read LED display that alerts you to specific threats but is not so bright that it blinds you or draws attention to yourself.

In my opinion, a radar detector has to be good at what it's supposed to do, but it also has to be user friendly and functional. The Valentine One definitely has this perfect mix, but it does come at a price.

5 Things You Must Know Before Buying a Radar Jammer

Today we are driving faster cars; as a result, more and more people are relying on radar jammers to evade police. While the reasons for owning a jammer are obvious, what to look for before buying one may not be.

1- If you are contemplating the purchase of an active radar jammer for your vehicle, you should know that they are illegal and have been banned by the federal government since December of 1977. The FCC has banned the use and the sale of these devices and the consequences for repeatedly and willfully using them can be steep. Per the FCC, you could be fined as much as $11,000 per violation (with a maximum amount of $75,000) and you could be sent to jail.

2- This is a good time to think about the debate of whether a passive jammer for radar detectors actually works or not. While passive and active jammers themselves send signals back to a police radar detector and can jam up the signal that it receives, a passive jammer needs to be very close to accomplish this. For example, a police detector can be upwards of 1,000 feet away from your vehicle and accurately measure how fast you are driving. While your passive radar jammer can scramble that signal, it would need to be about 100 feet away to work. An active jammer does the job better and does not need to be as close as a passive jammer, but is the one what is illegal to own. Keep this in mind when looking for a radar jammer to purchase.

3- It's best to check with your state about if a passive radar jammer is legal where you live. If it is, you may want to check which models and manufacturers are acceptable and which are not.

4- Now, that being said, if you are going to purchase a radar jammer anyway, its best to know where to mount it to obtain the best possible results from it. Mount it where you can see it, without taking your eyes off the road. This will ensure that you are aware of any threat that it may pick up and can react accordingly. The unit also needs to placed where it gets the best "view" of the road and of incoming signals as well. The best place to mount the radar jammer is on the dash above the steering wheel. Placing it here will ensure that you have constant view of the unit and that it has a constant view of the road.

5- Radar Jammers can be purchased through online dealers. Because of the legality issues involved with owning and operating them, they can be expensive. Most models run around $1,500.00 each, this is for an active jammer as opposed to a less expensive, less dependable passive jammer.

Are Radar Detectors Legal to Use in the State You Live In?

Are you considering getting a radar detector? If you are, then you need to take the time to find out if they are legal to have in the state you live in. There are many states in the United States that prohibit the use of radar detectors. No one likes to get a speeding ticket, but if you use a detector illegally then you will find yourself with two tickets.

There are many states that will give you the ticket for speeding, but they will also make you pay a fine for illegally using radar detectors. Police officers all over the United States know that people are using a radar detector to avoid getting pulled over. So, they have started hiding where they can't be easily seen or found by detectors.

You need to take the time to do your research about using a radar detector before you get yourself into even more trouble. You can use radar detectors illegally if you choose to, but that is not a smart thing to do because eventually it will get you into even more trouble.

So, go online and research to find out what states allow the use of radar detectors and what states prohibit them. It is also a good idea for you to contact your local police department to find out information about using a radar detector. They can tell you whether it is illegal, but they can also tell you what the fine is if you are caught using one illegally. Don't get any detector until you have done your homework and thought about whether it is a smart move for you to make.

Sho-Me 320 Radar Detector

Sho-Me 320 Radar DetectorA radar detector is a compact electronic device used to detect and inform the user of any radars located in the coverage zone of the detector that radiate radio waves or laser rays, which the detector is designed to detect. In its essence, such radar detector is a passive receiver that doesn't suppress signals. Sho-Me 320 is a car radar detector operating off of 12 V direct current available through the cigarette lighter. To turn on the radar the user needs to rotate the control switch clockwise. The control switch is also used to adjust the sound volume. Sho-Me 320 produces certain signals, when the use of radars or lasers is detected. The pause between the signals gets smaller as the vehicle approaches the detected radar or laser. This detector also uses light indicators. The red LED goes on when the detector discovers a radar operating in the X-range, the yellow one - in the K range. When the detector discovers a K range radar, the red and the yellow LEDs go on simultaneously. When the S1-S4 LEDs go on and blink in a rolling mode, this means that the detector has discovered a laser signal. Sho-me detector supports 4 operation modes. When the "CITY" mode is activated, the detector's sensitivity to the devices operating in the X-range decreases. Such devices are for example switches of street lamps, alarm systems and automatic doors. If the "CITY" mode is not activated after the detector has been turned on, the default mode is "HIGHWAY". Escort Passport 8500 X50 (Red and Blue Displays) - A Review

The Passport 8500 X50 Red/Blue Display:

Price: the price tag is $309.95 for the red display making it one of the cheaper models, and very affordable. Strangely, for the blue display the price is $349.95 - I guess it is a matter of supply and demand.

Bands: this product detect all bands of speed enforcement radar both conventional and "instant-on" radars (X, K, Ka, and Ku), and is 50% more sensitive (covers greater range) than its predecessor, the Passport 8500. Furthermore, unlike its predecessors, the Passport 8500 X50 detectors are able to detect Pop radar guns, a relatively new addition to police forces.

Voice Alerts: there are audible and visual band alerts, but these aren't exactly "voice alerts".

False Alerts: Incorporates the AutoSensitivity Mode which reports few false alerts - but does not eliminate those completely.

Features: Includes the SmartCord power adapter which can be used as a secondary control for the device. Uses Digital signal processing (DSP) for superior range. Has a built-In Earphone Jack. Includes the "AutoMute" feature which lowers the volume of an alert after a period of time. Also incorporates EZ-Programming - a feature that allows easy customization of the device. Finally, it is compatible with the Escort Passport ZR3 Laser Shifter for even better protection.

Installation: the Passport 8500 X50 is windshield mounted, thus, has to be attached to the windshield using a suction cup system. This is a bit clunky, but the advantage is that you can take it and use it in other vehicles, motorcycles, etc. In addition, you can purchase an optional visor holder to hide the Passport 8500 X50 on the visor.

GPS Technology: Not available for this product.

Detectable: Sadly, it is.

Database subscription: N/A.

In summary: When taking into consideration all the features the Passport 8500 X50 as well as its price, it is clear that it's one of the best radar detectors you can get for the money, at least the Red display version is. It has lots of features (such as the SmartCord controller). And it's one of the cheapest models (again, the Red display model). Although it does not have some of the other features some of the other models possess, most notably any sophisticated False Alert reduction mechanisms, such as AutoLearn, or a GPS, considering all the above, we believe it provides extremely good value for its price. All in all, the Escort Passport 8500 X50 is highly recommended. Note that its Blue Display Counterpart, while offering the same capabilities, is slightly more expensive, so you should go for this one if you like the 8500 X50 detector series.

Total score: 4.5/5.0 Stars.

GPS Speed Camera Detector - Best GPS Speed Camera Detectors to Keep You From Getting a Ticket

Can a GPS speed camera detector prevent you from getting a ticket? Absolutely! For less than the price of the average speeding ticket or red light camera ticket, you can invest in a GPS speed camera that will prevent you from ever getting a speeding ticket again. However, a GPS won't do all the work for you. You still must do your due diligence to not drive obscenely in order for a GPS radar detector to be most effective. Here's some ways to avoid speeding tickets and pick the best GPS detector for your needs.

First of all, how do you know if you really need a GPS speed camera detector? There are a variety of ways to find this out, but you can figure out quite a few just by analyzing your driving habits.

For instance, you're a good candidate for a GPS speed camera detector if you:

1. Habitually drive 8 mph or more over the posted speed limit

2. Have a tendency to attract squad cars due to a flashy sports car

3. Are unable to keep your cell phone away from your ear or your text-eager fingers while you drive

4. Can't manage radio stations and driving and the same time

5. Often eat your breakfast or lunch, drink coffee or pop, or snack while you're on the road

6. Habitually tend to forget where the most notorious speed traps are located and get busted

7. Hang out in the passing lane in open view as a laser, radar, or red light camera target

8. Have trouble detecting potential areas where cops like to hang out for sting operations and speed traps

I have trouble with a few of these things on the list, and judging by the way my fellow drivers on the road drive these days, you probably do, too. But rather than relearn driving all over again, or worse yet, quit driving because you get too many speeding tickets, invest in a GPS speed camera detector to help you out. It will be your friend on the road, alerting you to any potential problem areas, speed traps, oncoming cops, red light cameras, speed photo enforcement zones, and more.

These GPS units are not all that pricey when compared with the price of a ticket. In fact, most Garmin, TomTom, and Magellan units that come pre-equipped with radar detection are less than the price of the average $300 ticket.

Houston PD Off Axis laser hit on my ZR3

Great hiding spot. I wasn't able to spot this guy until I looped back around to find him. Fortunately for me he shot me late and only caught the side of my car. Lidar guns don't work too well shooting from the side. However, I'm sure he tracked me from behind as I was leaving so it goes down as a save. Also it had me monitoring the on ramp very closely in case he tried to pace me. Nice job HPD. Next time take the shot earlier.

Cobra Radar Detectors - Advantages and Disadvantages

Have you ever experienced being busted by a highway police because of over-speeding? Getting a ticket from highway patrols from time to time really hurts the pocket. Aside from that, getting a job these days can be difficult if you have driving violations. Often, employers would look at the applicants driving records. If the employer sees that the applicant violated several traffic violations, then there is a great probability that the applicant will not get hired. If you want to avoid being given a ticket because of a violation and have a bad driving record, then all you have to do is to purchase a radar or laser detector.

One of the most popular radar or laser detector brands is Cobra. Cobra has many different radar detector models for customers to choose from. Since every person has his or her own needs, Cobra radar detector products also come in different features and functionality in order to meet the different needs of their customers. Cobra has been in the radar detector business for quite a long period of time. Their products have been widely recognized by a lot of people as one of the most popular brands being used. Presently, this company still continues to create new models of radar and laser detectors. Cobra radar detectors are considered as the customer's favorite when it comes to radar detector brands. So, if you are considering buying their product, read this information first so that you will have some ideas in your mind.

Just like any other gadget or machine, Cobra radar detectors also have some pitfalls. Since Cobra radar detectors are inexpensive, you also get what you pay for. The most inexpensive model that they have is the ESD 7000. Since it is the most inexpensive, this model is also known to have a lot of drawbacks. First of all, users complain about having some delays in terms of detection. Yes, it can also save you from time to time, but not all the time especially if you are using x-brands. The biggest pitfall is with using K/Ka brands as they seem to have difficulties detecting the radars, unless it is already right in front of you.

Perhaps, the best Cobra models to choose are Cobra XRS-9745 and XRS-9840. These models are known to be quite accurate in detecting radars and can provide users with enough time to reduce their speed. These models are also known to create pleasant sounds when making an alarm. These models also have the ability to turn their alarms off after a certain period of time even without human intervention. The only pitfall of this model is if you are playing music inside your vehicle you might not hear their alarm because the sound alarm is not quite loud. So, if you want to purchase a Cobra radar detector, then the best choices would be either of the latter models mentioned.

Radar Detector Comparison

With the market being flooded with a large variety of radar detectors, it is difficult for one to analyze which detector is the best and what qualities should a detector have in order to become the best in the race of all the ones available. This is when a complete radar detector comparison comes handy to you.

This comparison will help you to answer all doubts that you may have in your mind after reading various detector ratings - doubts such as whether an expensive radar should be preferred over a less expensive one? Here you can compare many detectors side by side and find which one works at the best for you. The most important point to consider while comparing is that one can compare them only in terms of features and not in terms of range and performance. So, you may come across an instance where one radar supersedes other one in terms of features but perhaps embraces less sensitivity.

When you try searching for which will work at the best for you, you can easily evaluate and measure all the generic features. These include city/highway modes, auto mute feature and many other common features, which actually are a cinch to measure. Another feature that demarcates all the radar from one another is their frequencies. When one gets lost in the way, the feature that comes to utmost help is the built-in compass. Therefore, this feature is again something that one cannot void while choosing the best radar detector.

Because all come from different manufacturers, each manufacturer brings in some special features for its detectors. Many models such as Whistler or Cobra are very manufacturer-specific and therefore, one can easily compare such detectors from other types that are available in the market, such as Escort or BEL (Beltronics). However, when it comes to comparing GPS-enabled radar, the strategy becomes harder. The Cobra detectors come with a 15-band detection feature, while a BEL is capable of detecting only three-four radar bands.

In addition to comparing radar detectors based on which manufacturer designed them, there is another criterion that gives you an equally useful comparison. The radar detectors that are available in the market today are also classified based on three categories. These are the new cordless units' radar detectors, which make use of batteries and can be easily mounted on the dash boards, windshield or the visor; the remote units which can easily be permanently mounted anywhere in the vehicle and are concealed; and the customary corded units' radar detectors. Thus, a study of this can lead you to a very fruitful radar detector comparison, which can help you in buying a wise radar detector.
